After a recent grazer's conference it was clear that a useful "kit" for a FIDO/Apitronics system would be a system with the following set of sensors/switches
This covers the basic worry points with an animal grazing operation - are they secure in the fence? do they have water? and is freezer working to protect the thousands of dollars of product already harvested?
I added the proposal for a Peer-to-Peer hosted Farmer-Owned Distribution Network to this tool. The proposal was originally made at the Food Systems Hackathon in Burlington, VT during the 2014 NOFA-VT Winter Conference.
What would it take to make the tools portion of the website text searchable?
While tabling for FarmHack at NOFA VT, I was approached by several students very interested in starting a FarmHack club/org. Noticing that there aren't any upcoming events on the calendar, I'm wondering if this is a good time to reach out to these students and initiate them to hold a first event on their campus.
I'm wondering if the community is aware of this movement to begin an organization at UVM and what people think of this development in the evolution of the community (I believe that this would be the first student-run FarmHack group?)
Greetings all-
At the end of last root season, we were tired. As a small company (4 full-time herbalists) that prides itself on maintaining a 30 year old production process steeped in intention and integrity, we were at a loss regarding how to address our current growth spurt and it's effect on our ability to continue producing professional-grade, fresh-plant herb extracts on the scale of our client's demands.
Then we found Lu's design. A dream was born.
I'd like to create a group of people interested in arduino for agriculture. Been blogging and tweeting a lot about this @agroinnovations and agroinnovations.com. I've already started to build the list community. Wondering what the best route for doing this is.
I know its not going to charge the batteries all the way but it will help prolong the life of your work day with solar cells on the back also for more weight why not add more batteries to the front rather then weighting it down. After all Led acid batteries are made out of led lol.
This is a really cool idea I'd also like to see something where you can text and turn on generators, Animal feeders, water so on and so forth.
I noticed you are using a raspberry pi. here is a Simple idea but put a solar cell in the rain cloud. Turn the plastic jar upside down and pore resin on the solar chip to keep it in place and add a lithium Ion battery charger for the night. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/231063318314?lpid=82 Simple but effective :)
