Urban Farm Challenge

Hi all,

I am new to this community so please excuse posting to the wrong topic. I am setting up an incentive prize (like the X Prize) to promote open source integrated urban farm design. It is early days but I am looking for 3 things: 1, feedback on the design of the prize, 2, potential members of the judging panel (i.e. experts in the different fields required) and 3, potential competitors for when the prize goes live.

You can read about the prize here: https://herox.com/urbanfarm

A salad planting, weeding, cutting machine

Hi I have an idea to reduce the time spent in my poly tunnel growing salad.

Essentially it's a roll-able carriage on rails that you slide up and down the bed. You attach different tools to it depending on what you are doing. It gives you some of the benefits of precision farming without the complex electronics.

The planting/ weeding bit should be fairly straightforward, but creating a machine (battery drill powered?) to collect the leaves will be a bit more complex.

EDYN smart garden

Edyn is a smart garden system that monitors and tracks environmental conditions, helping you make your plants thrive. The Edyn Garden Sensor tracks light, humidity, temperature, soil nutrition and moisture, and then cross-references this information with plant, soil science, and weather databases to recommend which plants will thrive. Check the Edyn app to see the plants that will grow best, the optimal time for planting, and even plant groupings with the same conditional needs. Edyn continuously monitors conditions and alerts you to changes that require immediate action.

A $20 DIY datalogger ( with waterproof housing )

I recently ran across the temperature logger tutorial posted a while ago by jennajane, and wanted to chime in. First of all way to go! I started my path to learning Arduinos with the same Adafruit logger shield not very long ago, and it's been an entertaining hobby for me ever since. But I have been plugging away at it for a while now, and I just posted a DIY plan for a very inexpensive ($10-15) logger based on the sparkfun Pro Mini boards. Also there is a waterproof housing I made from PVC pipe with only one hack-saw cut & some PVC adhesive for about $10.

Arduino Humidity, Temp and Amperage Monitor

You may be interested in this board that I have designed http://hackaday.io/project/1150-Power-Monitor. I am using an electric imp, but I believe that it could easily be configured with this board http://www.seeedstudio.com/wiki/GPRS_Shield_V2.0 . And in addition to sending an email if the temp is too high or too low I believe that this shield can push data to xively.com, but I will check that out this weekend. There is more information on my github page, and a link to the BOM on the hackaday site.

Thoughts on Problem Statement and Proposal Summary for Universal Adaptive Management Software

Hi Dorn,

I read through your tool and took notes as I went. I wonder if these might be helpful to other folks who aren't coming from deeply technical backgrounds. Of course, I'm coming from my own particular background so it might not help everyone. Does this sound right though?

Open Source GPS Tractor Guidance-cross posting

The following thread has started on DIY Drones - and is a great case study about why we want to be able to have single sign-on across open source communities and subscribe/embed forums and wikis. Otherwise we will be forever having parallel posts across communities...

Project for a dev school

Hello

I've read during few hours lot's of content of the farmhack's website, and it's simply awesome. It give me lot's of ideas and I need some.

I'm trying to prepare a dev training soon in a school where I can be accepted if my project is a "digital projects relating to the general interest, education and social and solidarity economy". I'm french and I love the young farmers community. Some people leave the city to go back to the fields. I would like to help them with my project.

I had few ideas that I will explain below:
