I've got all the gear for the rasp pi/yoctopuce wifi temp sensor but when I go to configure the fido the site openpipekit.org does not have the database configuration that your fido wifi video describes. I am not great with computers but feel confident that I should be able to do this easily. What am I missing here? HELP!

I have been doing research on what the Blockchain system might offer to farming. There is a crypto-currency called "Friecoin" which has been linked to Permaculture in some circles and their main web site is here. Beyond that my main interest is in the overall title for Blockchain which is "The Internet Of Value" and of course it is decentralized and peer-to-peer.

Hi,

I had a look at your project because I have created a similar system, I just wanted to say that the power usage is excessive, even for Wifi. I have managed to create battery powered (4 AA Batteries x 1600 mAh) Arduino temperature sensors that communicate with a central node (Raspberry Pi) via NRF24L01 radio modules (that you can purchase for 2€ from China), this all amounts to a lower cost per sensor and a much better battery life (more than 6 months). I have documented some of my work here: https://github.com/liamjack/Arduino-NRF24L01-Thermometer

The main node receives all of the temperature data which it can then store locally or send off to a server via Wifi (with a Wifi dongle), Ethernet, GPRS / 3G / 4G (with a GPRS / 3G / 4G dongle)... The server then handles sending alerts (emails, sms via Plivo), no need to hook up an old phone to anything, the SMS sending is done via the Plivo API (7 cents / sms)

I just find it crazy that buying a 400$ battery is even listed as a "solution" to the problem.

Hi BuffaloDan, Fantastic work on this and thanks for sharing it with such excellent documentation. Also, all 6 of your photos did upload and users can see them if they click on the primary photo above. We're working on the photo gallery presentation so that becomes more obvious. Again, nice work with this system, I'm likely to do a replicate soon.

-Chris

I made that swingset as a part of language classes for a small charity organisation a few years ago. However, I'm still interested in this topic and in developing this idea; I think there is scope for this to become a real, usable item for small-scale water management and use. If anyone's thinking of building this and would like to collaborate or add ideas - I'm open for further development. Cheers Rob

Hello,

I am currently based in Hawaii and couldn't make it to the event. For those of you who could attend, what were some of your greatest Aha! moments and takeaways from the event?

I have put this on the issue que and I hope we can make changes to it soon. I think you are correct that there should be an indication of the number of photos and some way to more easily preview before viewing. The other option is to embed the relevant photos directly into the wiki text, but that has its own issues too.

Interesting! I think I see the issue. The comments pager is actually paging through Recent Conversations. The easiest workaround is probably to disable paging in the Recent Conversations cell, let readers browse to a dedicated page in order to view the conversation archives.

This is my new favorite website, thanks for coordinating such an inspiring project!

I have a similar question about the "new posts"--personally it's easier for me to keep up with an RSS feed than an email subscription, so I'd love to see RSS support. Drupal 7 has this built-in, FWIW...

Let me know if I can help, I've squandered a few years doing Drupal web development.

Culticyclers;

I met Tim in Boston a couple of weeks ago, and will be building this fall. My bride started an organic csa about 8 years ago, and has not found the right equipment yet. Through ergonomics, precision, shallow till, partial damage to weeds, ground driven implements, foul-less rolling cultivators, we can help a generation of small farmers help recover the nutrition system that one and will feed the world. A great collaboration will yield great advances, but my goal is to get something that works into the hands of these farmers that do not want to build their own for a reasonable price. They have so much going against them, and so many other professional roles to fill.

We make toys in asia but design them in Tallahassee, and Tim has given me the inspiration to crank up a prototype build in our shop, or in that of a bike creator.

I am pleased to meet you guys anywhere in the usa, to collaborate soon. Winter is warm in tallahassee.

We are working also with FSU on a robotic weeding machine, a pogo stick kite generator, a ROV that climbs trees and cuts limbs. We have access to so good folks, so you should consider coming to see us, or we can go up coast.

Is this the place to be discussing the technical questions and solutions that I am working on, or is there a better place. For instance, I am intrigued by the rear steering concept coming from france. I would think it dynamically unstable, my experience is an old gravely mower that my father had, but if you are only adding very small steering inputs, and are geared way down, it may not matter. What are the advantages of steering from the rear?

Thanks Jeff

seeing the printable version gave me an idea. I have several wheels from some envelope handling equipment that I can drill holes into and use in the same manner. seems to be a better option than a disk as the rubber will give some and possibly reduce damage to the seeds. time will tell.

lonjevityfarms, nice looking prototype. There are several Youtube vids showing bed-shapers in action behind tractor-pulled tillers, and I'll link a couple here. This one is factory made. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HS2sdYU0ObU&t=0s

This bed-shaper is homebuilt from dimensional lumber. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2p_P_3QRkU

lonjevityfarms, are you planning to post more? maybe a short vid? maybe sketches or plans?

Great to see your first post! Welcome to the community. It sounds like you have thought through your design enough to post a tool wiki as and mark it in the concept phase. The tool format also will help link your project to others and help refine the problems you are trying to solve. I look forward to seeing your progresd and I hope others will join in to contribute!
