The Encyclopédie was the first encyclopedia to include contributions from many named contributors, and it was the first general encyclopedia to lavish attention on the mechanical arts, such as
metallaria (blacksmithing, metallurgy), agricultura (agriculture), vestiaria (tailoring, weaving), architectura (architecture, masonry), mercatura (trade), coquinaria (cooking).
