Farm Hack Talk

Hey everyone,

Just a short intro, I basically know nothing much about farming except that its a pretty data-driven and specialized practice with a wide range of different kinds of farming. I'm a web developer/CS student whose had several web apps under my belt (see my github: github.com/mding5692) and am working on an online hackathon by the USDA called the USDA Innovations Challenge (http://usdaapps.devpost.com/) and am working with a professor from North Caroline State University who specializes in plants as well several other devs.

I wanted to try putting this post into the Tool Forums section, but the system disallowed that (saying that that choice was not a "forum" but a "container"). So, someone knowledgeable: please move this, if it should be somewhere else. Also, I didn't know the right embedding procedure for Youtube vids for FarmHack forums... I tried a couple of ways that work on other web forum, but they don't work here.

Is there currently a FarmHack provision - or a policy or consensus - concerning posting URLs, images, or imbedded videos of useful tools shown and demonstrated on the internet?

Example of what I mean: Say I come across a good design for a DIY tool, device, or piece of equipment. The original designer/fabricator has shared it via a Youtube vid (or MakeZine article, or some other site/format). And, say, I want to share it with others here. Is it okay for me to do this... and, if so, how should I do it?

Just wondering if there are any plans or ideas out there for a small scale electric oil press, that would work with sunflower seed. I read a reference to one in this article: http://www.virgin.com/unite/business-innovation/farmers-geeks-hacking-agriculture, but can't find out what the actual press was. Thanks.

Okay, guys--new here so bear with me. I am looking for a really intensive farm instrument that can do a LOT of different jobs. I am planning a farm which will be growing more than a thousand varieties of vegetables every year. some will be for sale, some seed.

I thought the video that was shown in the upper left-hand of the Home page was a very good brief AV introduction to what Farm Hack is about.

I used to tell people not only to visit the site, but to watch the vid (not to mention scrolling through the Tools page). Now the vid isn't there, which I lament.

Just my 2c worth.
