Are there any plans for this?

Hi Inventor Paul, I'm based in Australia and am a small-scale market gardener. I'd be interested to know more about your successes/failures with this laydown weeder. I want to make one myself. Cheers, Luke

The Photobucket link seems to be broken (no images). Can you check it and repost it, as I'm really interested in this build? Thanks, Bryan

Interesting. I have the exact same question. I wonder if it's for the same reason.

Have you ever tried to dry pluck chickens? or only scalded birds? We are looking for a cost effective NON-scalded plucking machine.

Hello, My name is Joshua. I live 14km south of  Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica completely off-grid on a Permaculture Farm i co-own named Finca Morpho(4.2 hectare on the beach (link is external)). We are an open source farm and share everything we make and do on our website when we have time to write it up.

We looking to give back to the open source movement and trying to help open source collectives like Life Hack by offering 1-2 spots on our farm from Jan-Aug for rotation of choosing or as could be used. We are offering free shared room and board for the open source movement and would love to be able to host open source retreats and events for the movement. Looking to start talking about hosting as soon as anyone is interested.

Haha, woops, I thought I had missed the Ithaca (link is external) event but apparently it has not happened yet. Perhaps I will be there for this design charrette after all. :)

Hi Matt,

Did you come up with something for your peanuts? I am currently in Belize and thinking of heading to Guatemala. Where in Guatemala are you located? Perhaps i could be of assistance to you. I am good at making machines and i come with my small arc welder so together we could fabricate something.

For an example of my work see the Water Wheel Transplanter or my log at wiki.opensourceecology.org/wiki/Aidan_Log

Best,

Aidan

A teacher friend asked us for faster build that is less dependent on soldering because they don't have the budget for that kit. So we've developed a "minimum  version" of the 2019 classroom logger using pre-made Dupont jumper cables (as we did in 2016) to reduce the build time to about 1 hour.  I've also added (link is external) support to the code base for using the indicator LED as a light sensor, so they can use the logger with their existing curriculum even if they don't add extra sensors. The ability to use the red &blue LEDs as a proxy for PAR measurements may be interest to the farming community. (see: Forest Mimms publications on that for further reference)

This version of the Cave Pearl is probably the best starting point for people building  their very first Arduino-based data logger.

If anyone has a hack tool can you please tell me how you got (link is external) it? I have tried over and over to get this but I am just coaxed into completing surveys and once I complete them it

Came (link is external) across this site based on an ad in Hobby Farms magazine...I am a part time small scale farmer in Michigan. We raise sheep, rabbits, bees, chickens and an odd duck. My background is in machine tool technology (metal working lathes, mills, drill presses) and CNC. I also have experience with CAD/CAM (link is external) and solid modeling. I have built several machines for my homestead, including a log splitter and a hand powered water pump. I am excited to see what can be learned from this site!

Hi, I think this is a great idea. The wheels could be adjustable width for different beds. Also, running a rope underneath attached to a stake at the end of the row would eliminate the cost of a winch and solar pannel but may be hard to pull ones own weight. Id love to see this in action! I like the use of canvas, I think this could be made affordable, and portable very easily. Also, putting a mirror on the bottom and an umbrella on the top (w/a mister ;) would allow the farmer to work longer and still remain aware of his surroundings.

Hi, I couldn't find the spreadsheet you are talking about, I don´t know if maybe the link is broke or changed because I even search through the Vermont Webpage, but couldn´t find anything.

The sensor (ACS723KMATR-20AB-T (link is external)) is a detection device that can sense the information being measured, and can transform the sensed information into electrical signals or other required forms of information output according to a certain rule to meet the information Requirements for transmission, processing, storage, display, recording and control.
The characteristics of the sensor include: miniaturization, digitization, intelligence, multi-function, systemization, and network. It is the primary link to achieve automatic detection and automatic control. The existence and development of sensors allow objects to have senses such as touch, taste and smell, and make objects slowly come to life. It is generally divided into ten categories such as thermal sensors, light sensors, gas sensors, force sensors, magnetic sensors, humidity sensors, sound sensors, radiation sensors, color sensors, and taste sensors according to their basic sensing functions. .

Hello,

Just after sunset (link is external) on September 6, 2017, celebrations erupted on a farm in the quiet county of Shropshire, England. After a year of hard labor and careful planning, researchers achieved the previously impossible: the world's first fully automated harvest—from barren land to flourishing crops—had been successfully completed. The "Hands Free Hectare" used nothing but robots, and was yet another step forward in revolutionizing how we feed the world.

Like to see a watering tape dispensing unit at the front of the bedder so tape would be 2nces or so below the top of the bed.

We recently posted about application of our 1-hour  'classroom logger' that has a variety of options for fine-tuning to the things people on this forum are interested in.

https://thecavepearlproject.org/2019/08/30/creating-a-normalized-vegetation-index-sensor-with-two-leds/ (link is external)

Now, I know there's alot of hand-wavy unknowns in there, and creating a pseudo NDVI with transmittance rather than reflectance bends the rules a bit: but keep in mind this was meant from the start to be a conceptual experiment, rather than a rigorous tool at this stage. This fun little hack really has legs in an educational context, and it wouldn't take much to tune the idea to any specific application with better LED selection.

Hi, I'm Leanna Mulvihill. I'm an intern with the National Young Farmers' Coalition and organized FarmhackESF last fall. This May I'll be graduating from SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse with a degree in forest engineering. My goal is to learn more about agriculture and bridge the gap between farmers and engineers. This forums looks super useful and exciting. Thank you to everyone who put it together (link is external)!
