    Crop Hopper

    Crop Hopper

The Crop Hopper is a zero turn lawn mower converted into a cultivation tractor. Its equipped with spinning weeders like a "Regi weeder" that are controlled by the operator's hands while steering with foot peddles. It also has hilling discs, rear tire sweeps and a high clearance compost/harvest cart. This machine is being developed to address the need for affordable precision cultivation equipment, especially on sloped and rough land.

    Modular Wire Weeder

    Modular Wire Weeder

Hi! Recently I made a set of modular wire hoes made solely from parts found at the local hardware store. It took me about half an hour to assemble all parts using just a few simple pliers. Each item of the hoe can be disconnected and replaced if needed. This summer I will be testing the prototype on two farms in the Netherlands (both on sandy soil) to see if the tool is sturdy enough. In addition to testing the current prototype, I am looking to develop this modular set further. The system is based on quick release connectors typically used for pneumatic machines. I think the quick release connector system can also become part of a wheel hoe, rake or small hand weeders. If you are interested in helping to further develop this modular set or test it in your own garden, please let me know! I will upload an instruction manual and a list of parts needed as soon as possible

    Muscle-powered rotary weed whacker

    Muscle-powered rotary weed whacker

A rotary weed whacker using a linear-to-rotary power mechanism, as used in salad spinners and toy cars. I'm not a farmer but this seems like something which readers here could develop quickly; thanks for having me. I assembled this tool with an actual salad spinner mechanism, which does not provide enough rpm; but a higher-geared mechanism with a flywheel design might, I suspect, work.

    Solarization

    Solarization

Solarization utilizes energy from the sun to kill weeds and grasses. Simply laying a sheet of clear plastic or a large piece of glass will eliminate weeds. This technique depends on strong sunlight, and works best under dry conditions. Sliding glass doors work well. We have experimented with black plastic and clear plastic.

    Finger Weeder

    Finger Weeder

Finger weeders are a cultivation tool which use ground driven, rubber, star shaped discs to disturb the soil very close to the cultivated crop. Their main advantage is their ability to reach in row weeds. They do not damage the cultivated crop because of the soft rubber which they are made of. They are best for transplanted or well-established crops because they can damage smaller crops.
