Hi everyone–
I encourage you all to introduce yourself to the FarmHack community here as your first post.
I am Ben Shute, I run a CSA farm in the Hudson River Valley of NY called Hearty Roots Community Farm.
My connection to FarmHack is through the National Young Farmers' Coalition, of which I am a board member and co-founder. I have been working on getting the FarmHack blog going over the past year and organizing the first round of FarmHack events and workshops.
I'm excited for FarmHack to help me run a better farm as I learn from the ideas and innovations of the wider community of farmers, engineers, designers, and more.

Greetings,

My research focus is integrated disease management for orchards in the northeastern US, apple scab is my main focus. There are several projects I'm currently involved in that you may be interested in, including the use of a predictive model (RIMpro) and Potassium Bicarbonate (KBC) for apple scab control. Vincent Philion at Irda in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville is a great person to talk to regarding RIMpro and KBC. The University of Vermont also has several individuals who are Farmhack members and others who are focused on orchards (Terry Bradshaw for organics).

Came across this site based on an ad in Hobby Farms magazine...I am a part time small scale farmer in Michigan. We raise sheep, rabbits, bees, chickens and an odd duck. My background is in machine tool technology (metal working lathes, mills, drill presses) and CNC. I also have experience with CAD/CAM and solid modeling. I have built several machines for my homestead, including a log splitter and a hand powered water pump. I am excited to see what can be learned from this site!

Hi everyone!

I'm Chloe, a microengineering student from Switzerland. I've been WWOOFing a few times (short term) in England and Norway.

I came in contact with the Farm Hack community at the end of last year, when I was doing an internship in humanitarian engineering in southern India. My subject was to build a rice planting machine, and I decided to try a pedal-powered version based on a modified bicycle. The Culticycle was a great inspiration to my work but I decided to make something even simpler to build, focusing on having a tool that Indian women can easily use: most farm tools are made by and for men, and the local people I was working with are small women (1m50 or 4.9ft on average).

As my internship wasn't for a very long period (3 months) and our schedule was rules by various external events, we didn't manage to complete our testing of the prototype for the rice transplanter, which needed improving mainly in manufacturing quality. However, the tractor we built out of the bicycle could be used as a driving unit by other people who'd like to develop a simple pedal-powered tool, and I decided to share my designs: TricTrac - Tricycle Tractor

This is the first tool I publish, and I'm aware documentation could be more complete so all comments are welcome!

Cheers,
Chloe

Hello, My name is Joshua. I live 14km south of  Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica completely off-grid on a Permaculture Farm i co-own named Finca Morpho(4.2 hectare on the beach). We are an open source farm and share everything we make and do on our website when we have time to write it up.

We looking to give back to the open source movement and trying to help open source collectives like Life Hack by offering 1-2 spots on our farm from Jan-Aug for rotation of choosing or as could be used. We are offering free shared room and board for the open source movement and would love to be able to host open source retreats and events for the movement. Looking to start talking about hosting as soon as anyone is interested.

Hi, I'm Leanna Mulvihill. I'm an intern with the National Young Farmers' Coalition and organized FarmhackESF last fall. This May I'll be graduating from SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse with a degree in forest engineering. My goal is to learn more about agriculture and bridge the gap between farmers and engineers. This forums looks super useful and exciting. Thank you to everyone who put it together!

Hello!

My name is Collin, and I am from Portland, Oregon. I recently began a career change from a would-be urban planner/underemployed Uber driver to a database manager. I just started learning Python programming on FreeCodeCamp.org, Udemy, Coursera.org, and I will soon enroll in Duke University's Big Data and Data Science online program. I want to start-up what's known as a Credit Union Service Organization (CUSO) that will help credit unions service a multitude of sectors, including permaculture and ecovillages, with financial technology. In other words, I want to work towards giving credit unions the data they need to fund FarmTech hacks.

If you need a volunteer for an easy, beginner-level database project, please send me an email or visit my LinkedIn profile at https://www.linkedin.com/in/collinsferguson/.

Sincerely,

Collin S. Ferguson

Howdy all!  I'm James, starting a farm in Oregon, no money, etc.  I've been aware of Farm Hack since I was doing my interning / wwoofing 7-8 years ago, and I'm excited to finally be in a place where I can participate more meaningfully.

To that end, I seem to remember checking this forum out 6 or 8 years ago, and there being a bunch of hacks and improvements for different tools.  Right now, I'm looking for Earthway Seeder improvements.  Is that material archived somewhere?  Am I just confused?

Thanks!
