Cheap wifi option

Make magazine recently did a series of three articles on a wifi processor that can be had for $5 - $7 USD. They've even added an arduino library. http://makezine.com/2015/04/01/installing-building-arduino-sketch-5-microcontroller/ http://makezine.com/2015/04/01/esp8266-5-microcontroller-wi-fi-now-arduino-compatible/ http://makezine.com/2015/04/01/designing-breadboard-adaptor-5-esp8266-microcontroller/

Brainstorming on The Free Farm Manifesto

Hello Farm Hackers, I created the GNU Farm Manifesto as a Tool on Farm Hack with the following description:

In the spirit of The GNU Manifesto that layed out the mission for a set software tools that users have the freedom to modify, we lay the GNU Farm Manifesto here editable by the community to help define what software and hardware freedom means to us and our goals for achieving that freedom in the tools we use in agriculture.

I also added 3 sections to the wiki page for this Tool:

Let's Not Become Dogmatic

I'm a Stallman fan, but I also consider him a dogmatic partisan. He doesn't endorse "open source": https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.html

"As the advocates of open source draw new users into our community, we free software activists must shoulder the task of bringing the issue of freedom to their attention. We have to say, “It's free software and it gives you freedom!”—more and louder than ever. Every time you say “free software” rather than “open source,” you help our cause."

Advice from the FarmHack community for BBC tech programme

Hello everyone!

Hopefully I'm posting this in the right section, apologies if not! Just to introduce myself - I'm part of the team that works on BBC tech programme Click - we're a weekly TV show that goes out on BBC News, BBC World and the BBC News Website.

We're in the initial stages of a project for which I was hoping to get the advice and possibly involvement from the Farm Hack community.

Embedded photo bucket into the documentation

Hello! I just wanted to post to say that I embedded the photo bucket slideshow you have into the tool wiki. I've never seen photo bucket used before for documentation on Farm Hack but it looks like it works great! I just went to the photo bucket, found the html embed code, and copied it into the tool wiki. The code does the rest :).

Thanks for posting this awesome tool to FH!

Conversation about baling with ground-driven carts from Draft Animal Power Network Facebook

Draft Animal Power Network on Facebook

Rich DuMond 4 hrs Does anyone on here have any experience/knowledge with baling hay with an I&J ground driven PTO forecart? (or any other ground driven PTO forecart for that matter). I'm not familiar with how much HP it generates, and how many RPM's small square balers require. Like · · Share
