    Autonomous tractor

    Autonomous tractor

this diy autonomous tractor is currently functioning as a remote control electric tractor. the next stage will be to implement an RTK GPS guidance system, then after that to give it computer vision. My colleague, Paddy, is working to develop software and hardware designs to facilitate the emergence of an open source industry for farm robots, to make this emerging technology available to small farmers. The first video bellow is of his robot. My goal is to develop a machine that can use his open source farm robot control system in a vehicle that can completely replace the tractor work on the diversified market garden on which i work. The second video bellow is of the second test drive of the robot i am working on. It would be great to see a wide range of diy farm robots being built and tested, and to get a global community of farmers and engineers collaborating to try and compete with the giants of agricultural machinery for control of this emerging technology

    Conceptual scaled 'farmbot'

    Conceptual scaled 'farmbot'

Inspired by the farmbot and other open source ideas, this is a concept I've been thinking about and finally did a quick sketchup to better explain it to some friends. You'll get the idea, just take a look. Let me know if there are any collaborators in the Bay Area!

Open Pipe Kit- Sensor Data Collector

Open Pipe Kit- Sensor Data Collector

A Pipe is a device that directs the flow of data from a sensor to the place of the Pipe owner's choosing. With Open Pipe Kit it's easy to build Pipes, even for folks who don't program. That means a Pipe will be in the places where you can't always be and you'll always know what is going on. You can send data to Google Sheets, Farm OS, Adafruit.io, and many other places. Check out https://OpenPipeKit.github.io. for guides on building your first pipes.

    farmOS

    farmOS

farmOS is a Drupal distribution and set of modules for farm management and record keeping on the web. The goal is to build a platform for farms of all types and sizes to manage their planning and record keeping in one place, available from anywhere over the internet. Official site and documentation: http://farmOS.org If you're interested in supporting the project, consider signing up for a hosted farmOS site through Farmier: http://farmier.com

    Heated Greenhouse Table

    Heated Greenhouse Table

Heated greenhouse tables serve two main purpose on the small market garden veggie farm. First, it offers a place with a fairly constant temperature to ensure high germination rates. Not too unlike the Sweat Box Germination Chamber (http://farmhack.org/tools/sweat-box-germination-chamber), However, this tool allows us to continue growing the seedlings under optimal conditions until they get a bit stronger. Secondly, we can get some onion plants out to the greenhouse to free up room in our seedling room. We start onions and greenhouse tomatoes under lights in the basement, then move them out to the greenhouse when we are ready to start heating the greenhouse/nursery.

Fido, the temperature alarm that sends text messages

Fido, the temperature alarm that sends text messages

Is your greenhouse getting frosty? How about too hot today? Is your fridge still on? Fido is a temperature alarm that will send you text messages that you can build for around $100. Solder together the Arduino based model or snap together the Raspberry Pi based model.

    Automated Irrigation Controller

    Automated Irrigation Controller

Using a moisture sensor, an Arduino, and a valve we document how to create a simple, battery powered, irrigation controller.

    chicken coop automatic controls

    chicken coop automatic controls

Still a work in progress This will allow you to automatically control artificial light in your chicken coop along with an actuator for a door.

    Bpex, outside case

    Bpex, outside case

A box designed for outside sensors. Adapted to agriculture, it protects against rain but allow electronics to measure humidity, temp, gas... Designed with openscad to be 3D printable and fully parametric : size, thread size, angle... BPEX is for Boitier Parametrique Extérieur

Farm Internet of Things Suite (RaspberryPi Based)

Farm Internet of Things Suite (RaspberryPi Based)

A suite of Farm Internet of things sensors organized around common farm use cases including but not limited to monitoring and management of Soil and Crop health, root cellar, greenhouse, walk-in cooler, compost pile, germination chamber, livestock fence and water, irrigation, bird control. This Suite of hardware fits within the FarmOS Farm Observatory system to manage parameters and alerts through a visual programming interface based on Scratch/Blockly.
