    Autonomous tractor

    Autonomous tractor

this diy autonomous tractor is currently functioning as a remote control electric tractor. the next stage will be to implement an RTK GPS guidance system, then after that to give it computer vision. My colleague, Paddy, is working to develop software and hardware designs to facilitate the emergence of an open source industry for farm robots, to make this emerging technology available to small farmers. The first video bellow is of his robot. My goal is to develop a machine that can use his open source farm robot control system in a vehicle that can completely replace the tractor work on the diversified market garden on which i work. The second video bellow is of the second test drive of the robot i am working on. It would be great to see a wide range of diy farm robots being built and tested, and to get a global community of farmers and engineers collaborating to try and compete with the giants of agricultural machinery for control of this emerging technology

    Crop Hopper

    Crop Hopper

The Crop Hopper is a zero turn lawn mower converted into a cultivation tractor. Its equipped with spinning weeders like a "Regi weeder" that are controlled by the operator's hands while steering with foot peddles. Pig Tractor/mobile Breeder sow pen

    Pig Tractor/mobile Breeder sow pen

I came up with this SOW Tractor after giving some thought to the issue of having sows highly mobile, highly contained and safe healthy and happy. It also solves a problem I've seen in pasture management. If you'll notice alot of hay farmers get further and further from the feild edge every Cutting to avoid damaging their cutters. Running a pig tractor around your feild edges and pasture fringes allows you to make use of otherwise fallow ground harvest soft mass, legumes, and grasses improve sow health and cut down on actual feed inputs. This improves efficiency and effectiveness making it more cost effective to keep breeder sows herd and a boar. It also improves the ground was well.

Tractor or tool carrier for cultivating and harvesting

Tractor or tool carrier for cultivating and harvesting

The tractor I have designed has been in use for two years cultivating cutflower and garlic. I have some modifications I'd like to see and than create another one to sell to farmers. Also need sources to reduce cost of manufacturing and developing safety guidlines Listed is the tractor on our first run

Ground-Driven PTO Forecart converted from antique tractor

Ground-Driven PTO Forecart converted from antique tractor

This ground-driven PTO forecart is made out of a CASE VC tractor. We split the engine off of the rear end, and built the rear end up into a cart, adding a deck, tongues, a seat, and a railing. Generally, a forecart is used in between a team of draft horses and a piece of farm equipment and includes a place for the teamster to stand or sit while operating the machinery. For us at the Northland Sheep Dairy that means a 14 ft rotary tedder (tested and functional) but it could be used for many different PTO-driven pieces of equipment--perhaps even combines and balers. This project was undertaken at the Northland Sheep Dairy by Donn Hewes.
