          Description
Learn about results of cutting-edge field trials to restore Casco Bay’s soft-shell clam populations. Warming ocean waters, caused by climate change, have coincided with population increases in native and invasive predators that have had negative effects on Casco Bay’s valuable clam populations. As temperatures are predicted to continue to rise, researchers at the Downeast Institute for Applied Marine Research & Education have been working to find solutions to enhance soft-shell clam populations, and ensure their sustainability into the future. Efforts to examine the relative impact of coastal acidification vs. predation on clams will be discussed.
